Free Shredding Events Across New York: The Big Shred NY!

AARP members and guests are invited to join us for free paper shredding events at select locations around New York state. Connect with AARP New York to help combat fraud and safeguard yourself from identity theft by shredding sensitive personal documents after tax season.

Documents will be shredded on-site at no cost. There is a limit of 3 boxes or bags per person. This event is for paper only. Metal, plastic, magazines, cardboard, and other materials can damage the shredders and will not be accepted. Please remove metal binder clips beforehand.

Shredding trucks will operate during the scheduled time or until they reach full capacity. Shred site addresses will be provided after you complete your registration.

*Shred events are being held statewide, including New York City, Albany, Rochester, and Long Island. Please bookmark this page as new dates and locations will be posted by the end of February 2026.

*Shredding services will be performed by a third party.  All documents and information provided for shredding are subject to that party’s privacy and information security policies.

AARP New York is offering two webinars on fraud prevention—on Tuesday, April 7, and Tuesday, April 21. Registration is required.
