Leadership positions:

 

President

Jennie Chin Hansen, R.N., M.S., F.A.A.N., of San Francisco, CA, was elected by the Board to serve as AARP President for the 2008-2010 biennium. Ms. Hansen spent nearly 25 years as executive director of On Lok, Inc., a nonprofit family of organizations providing integrated and comprehensive primary and long-term care community-based services in San Francisco. She currently teaches nursing at San Francisco State University and chairs a nurse leadership grant focused on acute care hospitals and safety at UCSF's Center for the Health Professions. 

President-Elect

Lee Hammond of Salisbury, MD, was elected by the Board to serve as president-elect for the 2008-2010 biennium and will automatically succeed to AARP President in 2010. Mr. Hammond, a retired educator, began his 30-year career in education in Wicomico County, Maryland, as a classroom teacher. He then served as a school administrator for 25 years, developing administrative and managerial skills while working with diverse student and professional populations. He is currently on the Maryland Commission on Aging. 
 

Board Chair

Bonnie M. Cramer, M.S.W., of Raleigh, NC, was elected by the Board to serve as Board Chair for the 2008-2010 biennium and in that capacity, chairs the Board Governance Review Committee. She is an experienced budget and human services expert.  
 

Board Vice Chair

F. John "Phil" Zarlengo, Ph.D., of Jamestown, RI, has been elected by the Board as Vice Chair of the Board for the 2008-2010 biennium and in that capacity also chairs the Member Value/ Social Impact Committee. During the 2006-2008 biennium, Dr. Zarlengo was a member of the Board Membership Committee and the AARP Insurance Trust. He is a national consultant for developing and evaluating innovative staff training programs for urban school systems.  
 

Secretary/Treasurer

Robert Romasco, M.B.A., of Bryn Mawr, PA, has been elected by the Board as Secretary-Treasurer and as such chairs the Audit and Finance Committee. During the 2006-2008 biennium, Mr. Romasco was a member of the AARP Board Audit and Finance Committee and the Governance Review Committee. He is a corporate operations and financial management expert.

Gail E. Aldrich, an experienced professional in the insurance and professional services industries from Carson City, Nevada.
 
Cora L. Christian, a practicing family physician from Frederiksted, Virgin Islands.
 
Allen Douma, MD, a medical practitioner and business professional from Ashland, Oregon.
 
Leobardo Estrada, Ph.D. a professor of urban planning from Playa del Rey, CA.
 
A. James Forbes, a financial executive from Putnam Valley, New York.
 
William J. Hall, M.D., a physician, professor and geriatric specialist from Rochester, NY.
 
Joanne Handy, R.N., M.S., a nurse and executive officer from San Francisco, CA.
 
Hubert H. Humphrey III, an executive and professor from Golden Valley, Minnesota.
 
Richard "Dick" Johnson, a retired sales manager from Wilmington, DE.
 
Jacob Lozada, PhD, a retired Colonel of the United States Army Medical Department and former Assistant Secretary at the Department of Veterans Affairs from Fairfax, Virginia.
 
Mara Mayor, Ph.D., an educator focused on extending learning opportunities in both formal and informal settings from Bethesda, MD.
 
Maeona (Mae) Mendelson, Ph.D, a professor of Intergenerational Studies and founder of Travel & Learn from Kailua, HI.
 
J. David Nelson, a nonprofit association executive from Old Greenwich, Connecticut.
 
N. Joyce Payne, Ed.D., an academic, executive and authority on women's issues from Rocky Mount, NC.
 
George Rowan, Ph.D., a professor and former principal from East Lansing, MI.
 
Thomas "Byron" Thames, M.D., a physician and medical director for several companies from Orlando, FL.
 
Charles E. Reed, a long-term care consultant from Olympia, Washington.
