AARP Iowa Volunteers Receive Awards

Casserly accepts her Andrus Award for Community Service at the annual volunteer recognition event.Eve Casserly of Coralville received AARP's coveted Andrus Award for Community Service in 2007. A retired social worker, Casserly is chair of the Johnson County AARP Chapter and a tireless community volunteer and advocate.

The award recognized Casserly's outstanding achievements on behalf of older Iowans, especially in recognition of her efforts to organize hundreds of volunteers, businesses and the community for a month-long celebration of Older Americans month last May, and her work to produce a guide connecting 50+citizens to activities, and cultural and educational opportunities in the Johnson County area.

In addition to AARP, Casserly is involved in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Iowa City Hospice, the Coralville Police Department and Older Iowans Legislature. Do you know an outstanding volunteer to be recognized by AARP? Nominations for the 2008 Andrus Award are due in May.

Enguist is the 2007 Driver Safety Volunteer of the Year.And, John Engquist of Jesup, is the 2007 Iowa Driver Safety Program Volunteer of the Year for his efforts in advancing the Driver Safety Program in Iowa in 2007. Engquist is credited with organizing new classes, recruiting instructors, securing new program sponsors and teaching driver safety classes to more than 70 older Iowa drivers this year.
