She Will Decide marquee

For 50 years, AARP has been a leader in positive social change.

As part of our 50th Anniversary, we've continued that tradition of social change by joining forces with iVillage.  Together AARP and iVillage hosted a forum on February 1 in Glendale California called “How She Will Decide”.

“How She Will Decide” came about as a result of the broad media focus on understanding women and their perspective during the 2008 Presidential Election, particularly on issues like healthcare and economic security.

“Women’s issues will play an increasingly more important role in the elections in the United States,” said Nancy LeaMond, AARP Group Executive Officer and Director of the Divided We Fail initiative. “With an election that is already making history in terms of gender, the candidates are focusing on the issues women maintain are most important.”

The two-hour forum was moderated by Val Zavala and included hundreds of women from diverse backgrounds were equipped to provide real-time feedback as issues, questions and solutions were raised. Panelists Ron Brownstein, political director for Atlantic Media Company; Frank Luntz, political consultant and author of Words that Work; Nancy LeaMond, AARP Group Executive Officer and Director of the Divided We Fail initiative; Donna Addkison, political consultant and pollster; and Paula Madison, Executive Vice President of Diversity, NBC Universal.
