Hi,
I had a Right Total Knee Replacement Surgery done on April 15, 2008. I was in the hospital 4 days. Then, I had 9 in-home therapy sessions before going to a Regular Therapist where I had 32 Sessions 3 times a week. The Regular Therapist gave me a schedule to follow at my gym every other day. I am still doing the Therapy on my own. I also ice my leg down every day about 2 or 3 times a day. On the days I do not do my exercise, I walk my Shih-Tzu dog about 2 or 3 times a day & I always get in about 2 miles of walking a day. Both the Surgeon & the Physical Therapists said that it would take a good year for the swelling to go away completely from mApril 12, 2008.
My Right Knee is swollen and I was able to bend it to 127 degrees on my own at the Physical Therapists 32 sessions. When I travel for 4 to 6 hour trips, my knee hurts like crazy when I get to the destination.
I see my surgeon around the end of October 2008 for the 3rd time since my operation on April 15, 2008.
My knee plays hell on long trips and I volunteer for the local senior citizen volunteer van for 4 hour period prior to the surgery but now, I am lucky to get 45 minutes out of driving without my leg starting to cramp up. I am 6'8" tall & weigh about 225 to 230 pounds. I work out at least 3 times a week, sometimes 4 and I get plenty of physical exercise.
Does anyone have any Doctor, Physical Therapist advice as to how to get the selling down and how I can go on long trips to the beach and well okay when I get there. Any advise will be greatly appreciated. Any other methods that have helped anyone can be also passed on because at this point, anythin g is worth trying. I am walking on my own without the use of a walker or a cane since May 15, 2008.
Thanks in advance.
