Hello,

Does anyone have a good recipe for a homemade electrolyte drink?

I found several different recipes on the internet but wondered if anyone else has done this before.

This search for a good electrolyte recipe came up because I saw Dr. Oz today saying to drink Sea Salt in water, but I might have missed something he said on the show.  It can't be just eea salt and water.  There is a specific recipe to keep from getting cramps when working out that feeds the body.

Sending love and light...

Sharon

This is so cool! I always wondered what was in a sports drink -- and what those electrolytes were!

Hello Everyone,

I think I now have the answer to my own question, so I will share what I have found out.

This is Dr. Oz' recipe (note that 1 liter is about 33 oz):

This link explained to me more about what's needed in a sports drink to keep from getting muscle spasms, dehydrated, etc.

This is the recipe I will be using.  It's quite good.  I haven't looked at cost, but I'm guessing it's cheaper and less calories than the one I used to buy, which was G-2:

SHARON’S HOMEMADE SPORTS DRINK

1 qt or 4 c or 32 oz - Water
1 qt or 4 c or 32 oz - Organic Fruit Juice
1 tsp - Organic Sea or Himalayan Salt
1 tsp - Baking Soda
½ tsp - Cream of Tartar
3 T - Agave Nectar or other healthy sweetner

Sending love and light...

Hey, You're great, thanks for the quick response.  I'll try your recipe soon.  This will be great as I have joined a Jazzerise class and Zumba.

Thanks again,

Sharon

Hello Sharon,

I tried to make it yesterday and it came out alright, but not what I'm looking for.  Dr. Oz' people have not posted his recipe yet.  This is what I did:

2 tsp - Organic Himalayan Salt or Sea Salt (About 1/2 tablespoon of salt to one liter of water)
4 tsp - Baking Soda
3 T - Agave Nectar (Complex sugars like honey or agave nectar or even Brown Rice Syrup)
½  qt - Water or Green Tea
½ qt - Pure Organic Fruit Juice. (Flavor can be anything you want, fruit juices, lemon juice, whatever.)
1 tsp - Cream of Tartar (Not in the recipes on the internet but I know it helps cleanse toxins)

The Baking Soda was too much, so I plan to cut it back to 2 tsp.  I can't handle the taste of the green tea.  It taste green to me.  I love it in the commercial drinks.  They are full of sugar usually.  I will use water instead next try.  And, I will lower the amount of Cream of Tartar to 1/2 tsp to correspond to the Baking Sodo being lowered.

It tasted fine to me except for the green taste and too much salt taste.  I'm getting there.

I think you could make this and keep it in your frig for about as long as you could keep Iced Tea you made or a Juice that you have in there.  That's a long time actually.  I put them in some individual containers that I can grab and go with when I need them.

I'll keep you posted about when I find a really good recipe that I like the taste of.  This one does keep me from being thirsty, which is a good way for me to tell if it has the right ingredients.

Sending your love and light...

Sharon

Thank you Sharon for sharing.  I would like to know how much of each item however and if I could make a batch and keep in fridge for a couple days.

Hello Sher,

I was planning to use Agave Nectar to sweeten it anyway.  OK, so the recipes on the internet are similar to what he said.  I went to Dr. Oz on Facebook and posted, asking for the recipe and someone else before me also asked.  I recommended they post it on his website.

This is great.  Thanks for the info.  I have a group of ingredients now and can attempt to make it.  Here's what I'm looking at:

- Organic Himalayan Salt or Sea Salt

- Baking Soda (This tastes very salty too)

- Agave Nectar (Complex sugars like honey or agave nectar or even Brown Rice Syrup)

- Water or Green Tea

- Pure Organic Fruit Juice (Flavor can be anything you want, fruit juices, lemon juice, whatever)

- Rice Malt for carbs

- Cream of Tartar (Not in the recipes on the internet but I know it helps cleanse toxins)

I think I can make those ingredients palatable.

Sending you love and light...

Sharon

Hi, I'm new to this site.  I watched Dr. Oz today also.   The other ingredient is agave nectar to sweeten to your taste. I didn't get the correct amounts for the recipe.  Does anybody know them?  I couldn't find any info on his site.  -Sher

Hello Cindy,

I think with the cost of Gatorade, this is a great project.  I use G-2 for nausea and when I'm ill to just feel better and keep going.  It's like getting an IV.  It can really perk you up when you are run down.  Some people get so busy they actually get dehydrated, so this would be a good recipe to have.

Sending you love and light...
