Dear Train Travelers,
I have my tickets and reservations for a train trip from Boston to Chicago. I'm excited, but it has literally been ages since I've traveled by train, except for the subway. This trip will take me 23 hours with no sleeping compartment and I'll two days before Thanksgiving. I'll change trains in Albany. What do you think I can expect? I plan to take a medium sized piece of luggage on wheels and I also have a carry-on zippered bag. Should I also carry a handbag(I'm not crazy about handbags), or will there be an overhead shelf where I can have easy access to this carry-on bag? I don't want to bring my own food. What is your experience with dining cars on trains? Anything else I should wonder about? I'll be traveling alone. Thanks for any ideas you can give me. -Edie |

Diane,
Thanks for the good wishes! I was going to take the subway to South Station to catch my Amtrak train, but it is raining and I want to be a dry traveler, so my taxi should be here in an hour. I'll be quite early, but I know I'll enjoy just being in the "train culture".
Happy Thanksgiving!
Hi Edie
You have a safe and happy trip and a fun filled getaway !!! Take some pics and have a great time.
Happy Thanksgiving.
Diane
Diane,
Christmas at your dad's? Aha! Yet another good thing!
Tomorrow morning I will take the trolley up the corner from my house into Harvard Square where I'll take the Red Line subway directly into South Station and Amtrak. The only glitch may be rain, but I must remind myself that "I was in the Peace Corps, therefore---I can do anything"! Uh...sometimes it works!
Happy Thanksgiving!
-Edie
Yes, you are right. You do the same : )
Diane
back to Dad's for Christmas!
