Sturgis Motorcycle Rally 2008

About Our Coverage

Elinor Nauen

AARP sent New York-based writer Elinor Nauen and photographer Rebecca Norris Webb back to their homeland of South Dakota to follow the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally August 4-10, 2008 with daily reports and photos. Check back each day this week to see what wild and wonderful things they and other Sturgis attendees are up to this year! And be sure to visit Elinor in the Online Community.

Are you a motorcycle rider? Are you going to Sturgis, or have you been before? Send us your stories and photos in the Riders USA group in our Online Community.

Born to Ride?

Last(ing) Impressions

By Elinor Nauen

Our time in the Black Hills has come to an end.

On our last full day, we drove the most beautiful road in the country, U.S. Highway 14A through Spearfish Canyon, S.D. Saw a kingfisher and smelled the pine. Stopped at Bridal Veil Falls but reluctantly skipped the Indian tacos at Cheyenne Crossing. Did a little swing through Deadwood, where I busted a couple of tourist moves—sending postcards and buying earrings. Even with those, I’m still short on Sturgis tchotchkes!

Farewell to Sturgis and to the Motorcycle Rally. What a lot I’ve seen and learned.
