Q: I am considering participation in a home-exchange program using my second home to exchange. Have you heard of any pitfalls of such a program? Do you see this as a beneficial idea? What are the legal ramifications of participation? What if the people don't leave at the end of their time due to their choice? Or if someone became ill? Would the same legal-eviction procedures need to be followed? -Linda, Trinity, Fla. -Laverne, Palm Springs, Calif.

Why won't the Holiday Inn in Boardman, Ohio, let me cancel a reservation? I made it on April 7, 2008 for a date at the end of May 2008, and I was told that I agreed to pay the rate when I thought that all I was doing was confirming the reservation. I need some help for this. Thank you. –William, Summerville, Tenn.

In your last article for AARP The Magazine, you mentioned the federal credit law stating that if you do not receive the goods or services you are charged for, then the card company will issue a temporary credit and then investigate. I am one of the many who lost airline tickets when ATA folded. When I called my Discover Card, they eventually (after the second call) offered to send the paperwork to initiate an investigation, but they offered no credit. Can you help? Thank You. –Renee, El Cerrito, Calif.

Q: We recently retired, spent a couple of months in Florida, and recently returned from Hawaii. We do not like the heavy traffic in Florida, nor the 12 to 13 hours’ flying time to Hawaii. Where are Americans going in Central America or the Caribbean that is reasonably economical? We are looking for somewhere that is safe.
