Ask Peter a Question

Are the airlines giving you worry lines? Need the latest news on the best cruise? Was your rental car not up to par? Or perhaps you simply need a destination recommendation. Our travel expert, Peter Greenberg, can help. Fill out and submit our online form and your query might be answered in a future travel column.

Our group of eight ladies, all over 50 & former coworkers, plan a get-together in August. We live in New York, Virginia, North Carolina & Florida and are hoping for a central location to meet up. Looking for a getaway place for a "reunion" for a few days.  Resorts are "in season" and too expensive. Can you recommend something that would fit the bill for us?

For a fun getaway with your girlfriends, there are a number of destinations you could consider that won't break the bank. Centrally located between you and your other friends, Washington, D.C.'s Hotel George welcomes women to pamper themselves with a spa getaway. Spa treatments include facials and use of the Jacuzzi. For four ladies, a room with two queen beds is available and starts at $319 per night. For a special treat, the hotel features a wine hour in the lobby free for all guests to enjoy. For more information, visit http://www.hotelgeorge.com/.

In Charleston, W.V., the Brass Pineapple Bed & Breakfast features a Victorian experience with a view of the Kanawha River.  Each morning, you can expect a full breakfast; during the afternoon, tea and sweets; and in the evening, hors d'oeuvres. The inn is located less than a mile from the heart of downtown Charleston, close to a fairly comprehensive array of shopping, dining, and bars. Rates start at just $99 per night. For more details, visit http://brasspineapple.com/

At the MacCallum House Inn in Philadelphia, your weekend with your girls can include a shopping tour, horseback riding on the beach, and cooking lessons.  The hotel also features other fun amenities, such as a free bottle of wine, retro chick flicks, and a girlfriends' basket filled with top fashion magazines, an instant camera, and a silk eye pillow. Package rates start from $125 per person. Check out http://www.maccallumhouse.com/pages/Girlfriends_Getaway_Deluxe_Package.html.
