We've not traveled outside the United States before. Can you please tell me how to plan a trip for my wife and me to visit South Africa (Johannesburg, Durban, and Cape Town) and Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe? We could join other travelers from the United States on a 12-15 day tour but do not know how to get started. Several travel services offer the trip, but in checking them out with the BBB, we find that they do not quite meet acceptable standards. Perhaps you could direct us to a reputable travel agency or service in the Denver area. That would be nice. –Melvin, Aurora, Colo.

Q: Peter, what do you think about independent travel across Russia on the Trans-Siberian Express? Is it a dream adventure or a nightmare? –Patricia Hiss, Bellingham, Wash.

I would like to take my soon-to-be 95-year-old father on a trip to see the shuttle launch in Florida. He is in comparatively good health and can walk pretty well with the aid of a cane. The launch does not always take place as planned, and a "window" can be up to three days, so it’s hard to plan how long to stay. I am looking for resources, packages, etc., for a 5–7 day stay in the Space Coast area. We will fly from this area there and rent a car. (My son is an aerospace engineer who works on the project, and I know it will be a real thrill for my father to see what his grandson does for a living.) Any help from you would be appreciated, so that we can save money on hotels. Thanks. -Ruth, Memphis, Tenn.

Since retiring, my wife and I have begun to travel and are enjoying it immensely. So far, we have made our own arrangements, but we are now interested in a South African Safari tour. The itinerary we like is the "Best of Africa," offered by Vantage Travel, but we are concerned about some of the reviews of this agency on the Internet. Do you have any comments on this particular firm and/or tour, and are there any Web or other resources that newcomers can use to get objective evaluations of travel-agency performance? -Thomas, Los Angeles
