We are planning a two-week trip to the Pacific Northwest in mid-July '09 (we live in Hilton Head, S.C.). We will be flying into Portland and then driving up the coast to Seattle. We would like to take 2, 3, or 4 days and cruise to Alaska—do you know of any cruise companies that offer such trips that the locals may recommend? –Karen Hilton Head Island, S.C.

A group of senior citizens including myself would like to do a river cruise through the wine country in Europe, preferably during the warmer months. Is there a good Web site for looking into these kinds of cruises? Do you recommend a travel agent for this or not? –Richard Gulfport, Miss.

I am looking for a 20-30 day trip to Europe. Do you have a suggestion on what travel agency or tour company would be good for this? Or do you have a suggestion on what type tour would be better? We want to cover as many places as possible but do not want to just ride by and see, we want to get out and visit most places. Thanks, –Juanita Lawrenceville, Ga.

We are planning a trip to England and France as a gift to my daughter for her high school graduation. We are planning to take a bus tour from a well-known company. Some of our friends say it is just as easy to make your own plans, as there are many tourist buses to take you to those places anyway. Which do you recommend? We have never been to Europe before, and it is just my daughter and me—that's why I thought a tour was “safer.” –Barbara Clovis, Calif.

Hello, My husband and I have a one-and-a-half day stopover in Paris en route to a cruise that begins in Budapest (we’re flying in one afternoon, then flying out the following evening). We have never been to Paris and would like to see a bit of the city. Would you suggest staying at an airport hotel and commuting to the city, or staying in a Paris city-center hotel? Do you think we are allowing enough time for a little jet-lagged sightseeing? We have no idea about transportation between Charles de Gaulle airport and Paris or what to see (I only know that I want to eat in a local café and see the Eiffel Tower lit up at night). We are also a little apprehensive about the language issue. –Gerry, Hickory Hills, Ill.

Peter, I am trying to find a travel company that caters to people with medical disabilities. My mom has a bad knee, and my dad has cardiomyopathy. They are restricted on the walking, due to my father's heart condition. I want to send them someplace wonderful for a second honeymoon. I would like everything taken care of—the tours, the food, etc. Is there any such company? We have used Mountain Travel Sobek in the past, and that is what I am looking for basically, just without the adventure. –Stacey, Columbus, Ohio

Peter, I would like to hike on the Great Wall in China for two or three weeks, either in the fall 2009 or spring 2010. I would also like to see the buried soldiers. I am a healthy, active, 75-year-old female, but I do not want to carry a 60-pound pack around all day long. –Sylvia, Mead, Wash.

Hi there, Peter, I have a friend who is in his late 50s and is blind. He lives alone and would enjoy going on vacation, but can rarely find anyone available to go with him as a helper and guide. Are you aware of any companies or vacation spots where they will care for blind persons? –Angela, Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
