NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED. ALL FEDERAL, STATE, LOCAL AND MUNICIPAL LAWS AND REGULATIONS APPLY.
1. Eligibility: Subject to the additional restrictions below, the 2009 Make A Difference Day – AARP Create the Good Awards (“Awards”) are open to U.S. citizens and legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia, as well as U.S.-based corporations and business entities. Individual entrants must be 18 years of age or older as of the date that the entrant’s project is registered in the Make A Difference Day DAYtaBANK. Employees of Gannett, HandsOn Network, USA Weekend carrier newspapers, Newman’s Own, AARP, and any other Awards sponsors, as well as any of their respective corporate parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, or advertising and promotional agencies, and the immediate family members of, and any persons domiciled with, any such employees are not eligible to receive Awards.
2. How to Enter: To be eligible to receive one of the Create The Good Awards, your volunteer project must help older people to remain in their homes. We ask that you pre-register your project at Make A Difference Day (but pre-registration is not required to be considered for an award.) Then, complete your project on October 24-25, 2009. When your project is finished, fill out an entry form and submit it to USA WEEKEND electronically, or postmarked, by November 16, 2009. You can find further information here.
3. Selection of Two (2) Honorees: A panel of judges selected by USA Weekend will review all eligible entries received and will choose up to six (6) finalists whose projects, in the judges’ opinion, best capture the spirit of the theme “helping older people to remain in their homes.” This panel of judges will select effective and creative efforts that could be replicated in other communities. On or about February 2010, AARP will select two (2) honorees from among the finalists, using the same selection criteria described above. USA Weekend will notify the honorees using the contact information provided on the honoree’s entry form. Honorees will be required to sign an Affidavit of Eligibility, Liability and Publicity Release provided by AARP. By entering the Awards, entrants agree to abide by these Official Rules and by the decisions of AARP, USA Weekend, and the judges, all of whose decisions are final.
4. Two (2) Awards: Each honoree will receive an Award, which includes the right to direct a five thousand dollar ($5,000.00) donation to a 501(c)(3) organization that provides assistance to, and/or enriches the lives of, older persons. Each honoree will consult with AARP to select a recipient organization. AARP reserves the right in its sole discretion to approve the recipient organization prior to making the donation. In addition, AARP will recognize the honorees and their projects online, and possibly through other communication channels.
5. Release and Limitations of Liability: By virtue of participating in Make A Difference Day and the Awards, entrants agree to assume all risks related to their participation and to release AARP from all claims arising from any activity related to their participation in Make A Difference Day and the Awards. AARP will not be responsible for typographical, printing or other inadvertent errors in these Official Terms and Conditions or in other materials or announcements relating to the Awards.
