The mission of the Internal Revenue Service is to assist America's taxpayers in understanding and meeting their tax obligations and to apply the nation's tax law with integrity and fairness to all. IRS processes over 200 million returns each year and collects over $2.5 trillion in revenue.

The IRS also hires thousands of people each year for temporary/seasonal jobs during the tax filing season (primarily January through May of each year).
