Honda recalled nearly 1.7 million vehicles due to a potential manufacturing error, which may cause difficulty steering and increase the risk of an accident, according to documents released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Warning signs of the malfunction include unusual noises or a "sticky" sensation while steering.
The issue stems from the steering gearbox worm wheel, which may have been improperly assembled, reducing the grease that allows the parts to move smoothly. Additionally, the steering spring may have been set too tight, increasing friction and making the car even more difficult to steer.
As of Sept. 26, Honda had received 10,328 warranty claims. There have been no reports of injuries or death related to the recall.
