FROM HAWAII

I am the band director at a High School in Hawaii. It is an extremely busy job which includes teaching classes, rehearsals, concerts, parades and football games. While at work, scheduled caregivers care for mom (Francisca). I manage mom's caregivers' schedules and pay. When home, I become mom's primary caregiver which is much like another full-time job. I prepare mom's meals, manage her medication/doctor's appointments, and assist her to the bathroom/bedroom. I am able to toilet her and give her a bath. Whenever I can, I take her out shopping, to concerts, events, and trips to Vegas. Mom loves getting out of the house and always looks forward to when I am off from work. Although it has been extremely difficult at times, I remind myself that she is my mother and that I am all she's got left. My sister, dad and brother have all passed away and the responsibility of my mom, our property/assets are all squarely on my shoulders. I remind myself if the tables were turned, how would I want to live the last years of my life. I am not naive and know mom will not be with me much longer at her age of 91. I am trying my best for her and for the students I teach. God help me.
