I am currently working full time and caring for my 82-year old mother. She is everything to me and due to dementia she needs someone to help her on a daily basis to manage her care and to help her stay in her home. Many family members do not support my efforts via help or financial assistance. Luckily most of her health care is paid for by her insurance so that is not a burden. Since my Mom needs 24/7 care, she attends an adult daycare facility 5-days a week while I am working a 40+ hr week. The financial burden is due to weekend care so as a caregiver, I can have a break. Unfortunately the weekend care is expensive and is paid for by my Mom and me. It takes all of my Mom's social security every month and I pay out of pocket approximately $560 per month on top of that. Between that and her monthly household expenses, the financial burden is great for us. But what is most important to me is that I keep my Mom home for as long as possible. She deserves that happiness.
