FROM MICHIGAN

26 years ago my grandmother was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, and almost instantly she went from complete independence to being paralyzed in a wheel chair and needing help. My grandmother has never let her diagnosis or disability get the best if her. She is a fighter, she's such a classy and jazzy lady. As she gets up in age she does require a lot more help with her daily living functions. MS has had a major impact on our family, 2 years ago my grandmother had a very bad fall transferring from her chair to her bed and broke her ankle. Due to the paralysis she didn't immediately realize it was broken. Once she did the results were a major surgery and 3 months inpatient rehabilitation that left her feeling defeated and helpless. After about 4 months of total rehab including 24 hour care once she was back home, she made a full recovery and was once again on the go. One of the most difficult parts of being her caregiver is keeping up with her schedule. Almost everyday she has somewhere to be, she's truly not letting MS and her wheelchair keep her sitting still!
