FROM NORTH CAROLINA

I was asked by a friend if I would take care of his 92 year old mother since he and his wife needed a break. They were in their 70s and not in the best of health themselves. I fell in love with this beautiful lady. She had so many stories of the early 1900s that just delighted me because she mage them come alive. I was in charge of her meals, medications, baths, and general everyday activities. She could walk with a walker although very slowly. She was at first in surprisingly good health. But over the next few years that I was with her, she fell a victim to dementia. It was heartbreaking. Her name was Aletta. She lived to the age of 95.
