FROM VIRGINIA

My father, Alvin, was very active for being 85 years old. He neglected his feet and they got infected. Due to diabetes he had several operations removing part of one foot before it finally healed. It was a huge adjustment for us both. I moved in with him to take care of him, as I didn't want to uproot him from his home. He passed a year and half later from congestive heart failure. The best tip I can think of is to have someone willing to come sit with them even if it is only for a couple of hours. Everybody needs a break from the stress and worry..."Am I doing this right? Could I do it better?" I was fortunate enough that my eldest brother would come for a weekend at least once a month.
