About Us
Thank you for your interest in becoming an Experience Corps Tutor! No prior training is required to make a meaningful impact by tutoring a student just a couple of days a week. All reading materials, lessons and training will be provided by AARP Foundation and our program partners.

Volunteer Requirements
- Age: 50 or older
- Education: High school diploma or GED minimum
- Commitment: At least two days per week during the school year for tutoring sessions, preparation time, and follow-up documentation of session outcomes
- Timing: Hours between 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. in your time zone, Monday through Thursday
- Location: Anywhere in America
- Technology: Have access to a computer and reliable Wi-Fi for online tutoring
- Screening: Submit official application, participate in a candidate interview, and pass a background check and basic literacy screening
- Terms: Complete a volunteer agreement
Ongoing Volunteer Support
- Training: Complete pre-service and occasional ongoing training
- Peer-to-Peer Coaching: Learn best practices from experienced tutors
- Platform: Access training, tutoring materials, your schedule and tutoring sessions via our proprietary tutoring platform, the Experience Corps Hub and our Volunteer Resource Center
- Community: Meet fellow tutors and collaborate with staff via monthly team meetings, national bimonthly workshops and meet-ups, and our annual National Meeting
- Communications: Receive program news and updates via newsletters
- Recognition: Volunteer over 100 hours a school year to become a recipient of the President’s Volunteer Service Award
