Updated versions of the Pfizer, Moderna and Novavax vaccines have been approved for the 2024-2025 season and officials recommend that nearly everyone get this new version of the vaccine.
The updated Pfizer and Moderna vaccines target a more recent strain of the virus called KP.2 which was behind much of this summer’s surge in COVID-19 cases, while the updated Novavax vaccine targets the parent strain of currently circulating variants called JN.1.
With positive tests, emergency room visits and hospitalizations rising in many areas, health experts continue to encourage all Americans to stay up-to-date on their COVID-19 vaccinations to prevent serious illness or hospitalization.
