LCE Operations in Response to COVID-19

En español | At Legal Counsel for the Elderly, our top priority is the well-being of our clients. We are monitoring developments closely and are taking precautions recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and local public health agencies.

While LCE’s physical office space is closed, we are working remotely, and continue to support the legal needs of the 60+ community in the District of Columbia and those in long-term care facilities and receiving home and community-based services in DC.

LCE is:

  • Conducting client appointments via telephone, with further correspondence through email, fax, U.S. mail, and overnight delivery.
  • Continuing to make court appearances when required (many cases have been continued, please check with your attorney to verify). In lieu of appearing in person, we advise clients to appear by phone.
  • Operating our Legal Hotline as usual for advice and brief services, and to make referrals and schedule phone appointments for additional LCE services, when appropriate.
  • Receiving and investigating long-term care facilities and home healthcare complaints via telephone and email, and handling emergencies as they arise.

To protect the health of LCE clients, staff and volunteers, until further notice:

  • In-person client appointments are suspended.
  • LCE’s Office of the DC Long-term Care Ombudsman volunteer visits to facilities, outreach activities, and non-essential staff visits to facilities and private homes are suspended.

  • All legal clinics, including Schedule H are suspended, as well as other legal outreach events and Senior Medicare Patrol events.
