Over the past few years, there’s been an accompanying groundswell of interest by cities and states in legalizing ADUs as a relatively affordable housing type with a low carbon footprint that can tuck discreetly within existing neighborhoods.

The reality is, ADUs have been around in various forms since the United States was founded. Today, ADUs work well for a wide range of households, including millennials seeking a first home of their own, empty nesters seeking to downsize within their own neighborhood, homeowners looking for stable rental income, and families needing to live as a multi-generational households.

This webinar offers a snapshot of the current ADU landscape across the U.S. and share best practices and lessons-learned from cities and states that have taken recent steps to make this housing type more broadly available.

Presenters Eli Spevak, of Orange Splot, and Kol Peterson, of Accessory Dwelling Strategies, are ADU builders, advocates and cofounders of AccessoryDwellings.org. Elizabeth Decker of JET Planning is a land use planning consultant whose expertise is centered around creating, applying and interpreting development regulations.
