Video: Legacy Resident Retention in Atlanta

A 2022 AARP Community Challenge grant helps longtime community members remain in their homes as taxes and real estate prices rise

The Atlanta BeltLine, a major urban redevelopment project connecting Atlanta neighborhoods through a 40-mile multiuse trail system, is having tremendous citywide economic impacts, including rising property values along the path. To help combat the displacement that happens to establish residents when a neighborhood is gentrified, the Atlanta BeltLine Partnership created the Legacy Resident Retention Program, which helps subsidize the increased cost of property taxes for longtime Atlanta residents so they can remain in their homes. An AARP Community Challenge grant was used to increase the program's door-to-door outreach, focusing on older adults and people without internet access.
