Many older adults want to leave the home they live in and move into something more affordable, compact and accessible. In too many cases, such housing options — often referred to as middle housing or missing middle housing — don’t exist.
Additionally, many older adults will need the assistance of family members or other caregivers as they age. Middle housing can help family members live with or near one another to support their loved one while still having their own space or residence.
That’s why AARP collaborated with consultants from ECONorthwest to develop local and state middle housing guides that can help government officials, other local leaders, planners and interested residents create effective middle housing legislation and help take the missing out of missing middle housing.
