AARP Bulletin's January/February 2024 cover. The main headline says MONEY MONEY MONEY 2024.

MONEY MATTERS

“Money, Money, Money 2024” had great tips [Cover Story, January/February]. I’ve noticed businesses are now charging customers to use credit cards. And “cashless” businesses force you to use them. One solution is to use a debit card.

PAINFUL PRICES

I suffer from migraines. I found a miracle medication, and for a while, my neurologist could supply me with samples. But the supply chain dried up, and I cannot afford to pay for the meds. The pharmaceutical industry profits are astronomical while the general population suffers.

INSPIRING HEROES

Enlightening article [“Unsung Heroes of the Civil Rights Movement,” Your Life]! I like how it showcased people behind the scenes who made things happen—from Dr. King’s Birmingham jail letter to the Freedom Bus riders. The blatant human rights violations that took place in the ’50s and ’60s are baffling. The atrocities of that era still haunt our society today.

MUSIC AND MEMORY

I agree music is an excellent way to stave off dementia [“Q&A Julene Johnson,” Your Life]. I enjoyed playing guitar and banjo for years. Then age and arthritis made it hard to press and hold notes. I changed to the hammered dulcimer. No squeezing or pushing needed.
