GROWING OLDER ... AND WISER
I used to think the general media portrayed older and retired people accurately. I thought AARP’s version of vibrant, active individuals was biased, to get younger people interested in the organization. But after reading Robert Love’s editorial “When Ageism Kills,” I realized I had it wrong. Thank you for drawing attention to ageism.

NO BONES ABOUT IT
I’m a yoga instructor who focuses on bone strength [“You vs. Your Bones”]. Yoga is a weight-bearing exercise that helps combat weakening bones. Many of my clients have been diagnosed with osteoporosis. They practice safely adapted yoga to strengthen bones while improving their balance, breath and mind. I plan to give them a copy of this informative article.

LOST LIVES
As a retired investigative reporter for newspapers, I admire and am profoundly grateful for Lise Olsen’s thorough reporting on the murders of Texas elders at high-end retirement facilities [“Unnatural Causes”]. She and AARP have sounded an alarm for all of us who pay top dollar and falsely believe we are safe.

Your coverage of the serial killer preying on the elderly in Texas was excellent, if infuriating. I had to keep putting the article down because I found it so upsetting. The level of apathy by police detectives and the medical examiner was breathtaking. The contempt the care homes seemed to have for their residents was stunning. My heart breaks for the families and friends of the victims. They have seen little justice or closure, while the institutions involved continue to operate, profit and—quite likely—harm those they have a duty to protect. We must do better.

Astonishing to read. No one connected the dots. I feel angry, frustrated and sad. Glad they finally caught the killer!
SARA KHOSLA
Just heartbreaking.
