VOICE BOX
“How to Save Your Own Life” mentions to keep your cellphone handy in case you fall and really can’t get up. But don’t forget, most houses have a wireless device (Alexa), and phones have a voice-activated assistant (hey, Siri). If you have a medical emergency that prevents you from moving, you can speak to these apps to quickly make a call to 911 or a neighbor. You don’t even have to be in the same room.

ATTABOY, SCOUT!
This was paws-down the best piece I’ve read in AARP THE MAGAZINE [“How Scout Found His People (in His Own Words)”]. I’m so glad Scout found a forever home. I send him hugs, pats on the head and a rousing chorus of attaboys. Please tell Scout to keep us posted on his further adventures at Meadow Brook!

AGING WELL
I enjoyed the interview in The A List [“5 Life Lessons From Cher”]. Cher is more beautiful than ever and full of life. I hope to have as much happiness and energy now—and at 77 years young!

QUITE A SHOCK
In Ask the Tech Guru, you suggested drilling holes through unusable electronic devices to ensure data safety. While this is appropriate for computer hard drives, it is a potential fire hazard to do that to any device with a lithium battery in it, like a cellphone. Care must be taken to avoid shorting or physically damaging the battery, particularly if its state of charge is not known.

ROOTING FOR GATES
I love Gates and his show so much [“The Roots of Henry Louis Gates”]! He keeps me motivated to keep working on my genealogy. I often cry when I watch his show. Thank you, Mr. Gates, for helping us learn real history.

PAIN IN THE EYE
I loved your article on pickleball and avoiding injuries [“Pickleball Smart”]. I noticed one glaring omission: the need for proper eye protection. Pickleball is such a close-range, fast-paced sport that the hard ball causes numerous eye injuries and even blindness for those not wearing protective eyewear.
