Do I Need That Phone Jack?
WALLS THROUGHOUT most American homes are littered with cable TV and phone jacks that have been made increasingly obsolete. “Get rid of those things,” says Katie Whitaker, founder of Handyma’am in New York City. “They’re super annoying.” You can remove the jack with a screwdriver, tape off any wires, then cover the opening with a blank rectangular plate, says Whitaker. Or, Paul Gillett, an electrician from New York City, advises: “Take some sponge and stuff the hole, then plaster and paint over it.” —Niamh Rowe
