Our December/January issue featured Ringo Starr.

BEATLEMANIA

Great interview [“Ringo.”]! True to his reputation, Ringo comes across as a decent, friendly and thoughtful guy who is largely unaffected by his enormous fame. I’d love to meet him.

I first heard “I Want to Hold Your Hand” at my friend’s 11th birthday party. We listened to a 45 on her record player. Then I learned that the Beatles were going to be on The Ed Sullivan Show within a few days. I watched the show the following Sunday, and I was hooked! I loved learning every single thing about the Beatles. Ringo was always my favorite, and he still is. The greatest!

RINGS A BELL

As a lifelong singer and musician, I thoroughly enjoyed “Music and the Mind.” My maternal grandmother was from a small town in Italy. As her memory began to fail, she could no longer remember names, places or events. But the moment the Italian songs of her past began to play, Grandma Rose would sing along, word for word.

Fantastic article. My mother, a gifted musician, provided music therapy to people with severe autism back in the 1970s. Today I play guitar and sing oldies to people in memory care facilities. When they hear a familiar song from the past, I love to see their faces spark up as memories rekindle.

KNIT TOGETHER

My mom died when my sister and I were teenagers [“The Finishing Touch”]. She’d planned to knit us each an afghan. Mine was completed, but she was only halfway through my sister’s when she died. A friend’s mother completed the bright pink afghan. Even though she followed the pattern, you could see where my mom’s stitches ended and hers began. I will always be grateful to this woman for this great gift.

TAKING CREDIT

I had perfect credit until I was unable to make mortage payments after a relationship split [“How I Ruined My Credit Score”]. Within three months, my credit quickly plummeted. I’ve built my score back up, but I’ve noticed that if I pay my credit card off completely each month, my score drops 40 points. If I leave a few dollars balance unpaid, it doesn’t do this.

GREAT WORK

This latest issue is the best yet. The stories about those who are not famous are wonderful and especially touching and uplifting.
