Key findings include the following:

  • Three in four (74%) small business owners support legislation that would establish a basic, privately managed, ready-to-go Tennessee retirement savings option.
  • More than eight in ten (84%) agree that Tennessee lawmakers should support a state retirement savings option.
  • About four in five (78%) small businesses in Tennessee say they do not offer a retirement savings plan.
  • Two in three (58%) say they are likely to offer employees access to a state retirement savings option if it were available.

Interviews were conducted August 29-September 20, 2017.  Sample, including owner names and companies, came from a Dun & Bradstreet business list. The margin of error for the sample of 450 for Tennessee is +/-4.6%. For more information contact Jennifer Sauer at JSauer@aarp.org.
