Aug. 4: Roger Clemens, 60
A powerhouse for 24 seasons, “the Rocket” won seven Cy Young Awards, more than any other pitcher in MLB history. Controversy surrounding his alleged anabolic steroid use has kept him out of the Baseball Hall of Fame, and this year, he was removed from the ballot after 10 years of eligibility (he received 65.2 percent, not the required 75 percent, of the vote) — though he can still get in through the so-called Today’s Game Committee.
Aug. 5: Patrick Ewing, 60
In 2017, the 11-time NBA All-Star and two-time Olympic gold medalist returned to his alma mater as head coach of the Georgetown Hoyas. His track record hasn’t exactly been stellar: As coach, he has a 68-83 record, one winning season and one appearance at the NCAA tournament, but the university recently released a statement in support of Big Pat.
