What is coinsurance?

Coinsurance is usually a percentage of the Medicare-approved amount you pay for services after you pay any deductibles. You typically pay this amount after you pay the deductible for Part A and/or Part B.

Each prescription covered under the Medicare Part D drug benefit requires either coinsurance (a percentage of the drug cost) or a fixed amount regardless of the drug cost.
