Video: Using 'Pop-Ups' to Improve Public Transit

Learn about this winning project from a 2017 AARP Community Challenge grantee

LOCATION: St. Louis, Missouri
GRANTEE: Citizens For Modern Transit

2017 AARP Community Challenge - St Louis, Missouri

St. Louis' transit system covers 46 miles and hosts 37 stations of light-rail and interconnected bus systems. A one-day pop-up market in the North Hanley Station's massive, underused parking helped the community see how the space could be better used. The event featured dining and retail options, Tai Chi sessions and entertainment. Attendees were asked to share their ideas for the space and, if they chose, use LEGO blocks to create a model of the lot’s possibilities.

  • The AARP Community Challenge funds “quick-action” projects that build momentum for local change to improve livability for people of all ages.
