Teresa A. Keenan, Ph.D. is Director of Health Security Research in AARP Research, where she leads cutting-edge consumer-facing research, drives thought leadership on health and aging issues, and works to strengthen the nation’s understanding of the views, interests, and needs of midlife and older adults. Dr. Keenan joined AARP Research in 1997 and has worked on a large variety of research projects including those focused on health care, prescription drug affordability, and health promotion and disease prevention.   

Prior to joining AARP, Keenan spent a year abroad where she was a visiting research associate. She also worked for an English-language news service, developing country briefs for entrepreneurs and business investors.  Before that, she served as an Assistant Professor at Hobart and William Smith Colleges.

Keenan has a Ph.D. in sociology from Cornell University. She also holds a master of arts in sociology, also from Cornell, as well as a bachelor’s in sociology from Wilkes University.  Dr. Keenan also completed the ADEPT Training course at Georgetown University as well as the Executive Leadership Program at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.
