AARP Hearing Center
The AARP SafeTrip™ app promotes safe driving by helping drivers monitor and analyze their key driving behaviors — such as speed, braking, and phone use — all proven indicators of safe-driving practices and crash prevention. Since its launch in December 2022, AARP SafeTrip™ has analyzed feedback on over 16 million trips.
AARP's 2023 Driver Safety Evaluation Survey provides important insights into the many existing and potential benefits of using SafeTrip.
Key Findings
- SafeTrip is helping drivers remain safe and confident behind the wheel. More than eight in 10 users say that the app is helping them become a safer driver (84%) and to evaluate whether they should still be driving (83%).
- Given users’ positive experiences, more than six in 10 (64%) are highly likely to recommend SafeTrip to their family or friends.
- SafeTrip consumers praise the app for its high-quality features (e.g., ease of use, content), which is reflected in its high usage among consumers (65% use once a week or more).
The study's findings have important implications for driving safety. SafeTrip actively improves driver behavior, especially among those over 40, leading to safer driving and benefiting passengers and other road users.
Methodology
This fact sheet presents data from the 2023 AARP Driver Safety Evaluation Survey, an online survey of 601 adults 45-plus who were SafeTrip registered users.
