Arizona voters 50 and older are the most committed age group for voting in the 2024 election and appear to be on track to be deciders in the upcoming federal and state elections, according to new AARP research.
With key races in Arizona showing close numbers, candidates have an opportunity to win the support of these voters over the coming months by addressing their top issues.
While immigration and rising prices are top issues for voters in Arizona, between two-thirds and three-quarters of voters 50-plus say Social Security and Medicare, policies that help people remain in their homes as they age, utility costs, and prescription drug prices, are all extremely or very important issues they will consider when deciding how to vote.
Moreover, Arizona voters 50-plus say they would be more likely to vote for candidates who commit to protecting Social Security and supporting family caregivers.
Methodology
AARP commissioned the bipartisan polling team of Fabrizio Ward & Impact Research to conduct a survey of voters in Arizona. The firms interviewed 1,358 likely Arizona voters, which includes a statewide representative sample of 600 likely voters, with an oversample of 470 likely voters 50-plus and an additional oversample of 288 Hispanic/Latino likely voters 50-plus, between May 28–June 1, 2024. The interviews were conducted via landline, cellphone, and SMS to web.
