Iowa farmer Ray Kinsella builds a baseball diamond in the cornfield after hearing a voice that repeats, “If you build it, he will come.” Despite taunts from friends at his decision, but with support from his wife, Annie, he moves ahead. Once finished, ghosts of legendary baseball players — including “Shoeless” Joe Jackson — emerge from the corn crops to play baseball. Although Ray and his family enjoy watching the players — seen only by them and no one else — the voice doesn’t stop and he learns there’s more to be done than just getting former greats to play.
