A variety of Tastykake cupcake and “krimpet” products were voluntarily recalled by Flowers Foods Inc. because they may contain tiny fragments of metal mesh wire.
The Tastykake Krimpets — a krimpet is a sponge cake pastry — were distributed nationwide. However, the recalled cupcakes were distributed to customers in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and West Virginia.
Retailers that stocked the recalled products include Walmart, Target and Publix.
Flowers Foods initiated the recall after a vendor said an ingredient it supplied may have been contaminated. So far, there have been no reports of injuries or incidents in connection to the recalled snacks.
Nine Tastykake products fall under the recall bearing “enjoy by” dates as late as Dec. 25. They are:
- Tastykake Chocolate Cupcakes
- Tastykake Creme Filled Chocolate Cupcakes
