Some of the best deals out there for veterans are discounts at hotels, which routinely offer special rates to specific groups, such as government employees and AAA members. Hotel stays can be extremely pricey, so rate reductions can add up to big savings.

You can search for your accommodations through AmericanForcesTravel.com, run by the Pentagon’s Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) programs and supported by Priceline. Veterans get deals on hotels (as well as flights, rental cars, cruises, packages and event tickets) when booking through this site. A portion of each transaction goes to support MWR programs.

Be sure to ask

This list contains great discounts, many of them at the nation’s biggest hotel chains. But it certainly isn’t exhaustive, and the phrase “participating locations” means it is always advisable to check. There’s a strong chance that any hotel you stay at will offer some sort of military discount, so make it a habit to inquire whenever you book.

Along with discounts, some hotel chains offer loyalty programs with preferential benefits for military-associated guests. Make sure to ask about that too. With a little legwork and planning, you can enjoy discounted stays, extra rewards and even a free drink or two as you sit by the pool.
