Approximately 319,000 Empower Brands air fryers have been recalled because the baskets inside can break while in use, posing a burn hazard.

The recalled products are two models of the PowerXL air fryer, which has two baskets that can be used separately or combined into one large basket. During operation, the “U-Channel” connector that combines the two baskets can break, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reported in a recall announcement.

The agency received 41 reports of the product breaking while in use, including three reports of burns.

The products were sold at Walmart, Target, Kohl's and other retailers nationwide and online from August 2021 to October 2023 for $60 to $190, depending on the model.

The recalled models of the air fryer are:

  • 10-quart, DUAF-10
  • 9-quart, DUAF-005

The products have a silver “PowerXL” label on the front and a white label on the bottom of each unit or on the power cord listing the model number.

Anybody with one of these air fryers should stop using it and contact Empower Brands for a full refund. The company can be reached at 866-704-9370 or online. Refunds will be issued as a prepaid virtual Mastercard, or a check may be requested by calling the toll-free number above.
