Nearly 175,000 bathtub safety bars were recalled because they may become unstable and increase the risk of a fall, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced.

Liberty Hardware received 14 reports of the plastic sticker grip pads coming loose after installation, requiring a replacement. One fall resulted in a minor injury.

The recall affects Multi-Grip Tub Safety Bars sold under these brands and models, which are listed on a label on the product’s packaging:

  • Peerless (model PL585)
  • Safety First (models SF585 and S1F585)
  • Delta (model DF585)

The bars are white powder–coated aluminum and have a one-inch diameter tube with two grips at different heights.

Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled products and contact Liberty Hardware to receive a prepaid shipping label and packing to return the item for a $35 refund.

The safety bars were sold at several retailers nationwide, including Ace Hardware, Amazon.com, The Home Depot, Lowe’s, Menards and Walmart. They were available from January 2011 through May 2024.
