When is it?

The two-day sales event will start on July 16 at 12:01 a.m. PDT and run through July 17.

Do I need to be a Prime member to shop?

Anyone can shop on Amazon.com, but to take advantage of the Prime Day deals you have to be a member. Memberships, which cost $14.99 per month or $139 per year if you pay annually, gives you free delivery on over 300 million items, free same-day or next-day delivery, free streaming of some movies and music, and access to Prime sales. If you are not a Prime member, you can sign up for a free trial to shop the member-exclusive event.

What kind of deals can I expect to see?

In addition to giving shoppers percentages off, Amazon plans to roll out new deals as often as every five minutes during select periods of the shopping event. Invite-only deals are also back this year, which means Prime members can request an invitation to exclusive deals that are expected to sell out, such as 40 percent off Sony wireless headphones and 30 percent off Peloton products.

How much can I save?

Amazon says customers saved close to $2.5 billion from deals and coupons during last year’s Prime Day event.

Can I shop now?

While Amazon won’t roll out all its deals until July 16, Prime members can start shopping now. Amazon is giving Prime members early access to deals and perks including the following:

  • $200 Amazon Gift Card instantly upon approval for Prime Visa from June 27 through July 24
  • Five months free of Amazon Music

Competitors are also running sales events. Walmart is getting out ahead of Amazon, launching its Walmart Deals sale from July 8 through July 11. Walmart says it will offer up to 50 percent off thousands of items.

Target is taking it a step further, running sales from July 7 through July 13. The weeklong event will feature savings on summer and back-to-school essentials.
