If you are a fan of Betty White – and who isn’t? – the U.S. Postal Service has something in store for you. A smiling illustration of the late comedic actress will be featured on a Forever stamp in 2025.
“An icon of American television, Betty White (1922–2021) shared her wit and warmth with viewers for seven decades,” the USPS said in announcing the stamp on Nov. 15. “The comedic actor, who gained younger generations of fans as she entered her 90s, was also revered as a compassionate advocate for animals.”
The post office has unveiled several new stamps for 2025 but has not said exactly when they will be available. Boston-based artist Dale Stephanos created the image for the Betty White stamp based on a 2010 portrait of the star taken by celebrity photographer Kwaku Alston. The image appears on the cover of White’s 2011 autobiography If You Ask Me (And of Course You Won't).
White died in December 2021 just weeks away from her 100th birthday. She was best known for roles in The Golden Girls, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Boston Legal and Hot in Cleveland, as well as a host of Saturday Night Live. Older grownups may recall her long-running appearances (from 1961 through 1975) as a celebrity guest on Password. She married the show’s host, Allen Ludden, in 1963.
Her lengthy résumé has earned her recognition from Guinness World Records for having the longest-running TV career of any woman in history.
In 2011, White participated in an AARP campaign that encouraged others to embrace their age, laugh lines and all. The campaign, which told seniors to “get over” growing older, included a series of hilarious ads that featured White ogling hunky young men and making prank phone calls like a teenager. “Being an AARP member doesn’t make you old,” she said.
The postal service has a long history of honoring celebrities on stamps. This year it issued a stamp featuring legendary Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek, who died in November 2020. Among other celebrities who have been featured include Lucille Ball, Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney, Julia Child, Bette Davis, Greta Garbo, Cary Grant, Groucho Marx, Paul Newman, Roy Rogers and James Stewart.
