Don’t miss this: Discover the Secrets of Long-Lasting Love
The men campaigning for Joan’s love shrank from a field of 11 to seven, the competition got tougher, and Joan’s resistance seemed to increase, despite her reawakened hopes for romance. Happily for viewers sick of hearing the reality stars talk about their “journey,” the word is getting less frequent on the show: There were 24 journey mentions in the premiere, 11 in Episode 3, and only eight in Episode 4. Maybe by the end of the journey, they’ll retire the word.
But the journey went on entertainingly in Episode 4. Here are some highlights.
Chock was chock-full of hope for marriage
After Joan broke into tears of grief over her late husband in the last episode, Chock felt like it brought him closer to his goal. “She opened up,” he said, “and the breakthrough has absolutely brought her closer to me.”
Joan told a different story, not about one guy comforting her — more like Snow White being comforted by all 11 dwarves. “Last night was a particularly hard evening. I got kind of emotional, and these guys, like, just enveloped me. They were so kind and so understanding. I felt so much better. I felt like this weight was lifted off of me.”
Chock thought it meant her weight might be about to be lifted onto his lap forever. “It’s brought this relationship up a notch. And I’ve already had a one-on-one [date], but I’ll take another one in a nanosecond!”
Not so fast, Chock
Before anybody got a solo clinch, everybody had to go through a group ordeal, so Joan could test their mettle. All the men got a card reading, “Bare it all for love.” The guys puzzled over what this means as they got whisked off to Hollywood for a mystery event. “Could be bear wrestling, who knows?” one said. “I say pole dancing,” guessed another.
The Bachelorette star Kaitlyn Bristowe, 39, gave the men their stripping orders
Kaitlyn Bristowe told the men they were there to compete with the Chippendale Dancers, whose abs look like Praxiteles sculpted them. “Joan is looking for somebody who is spontaneous and confident, and somebody who can light up a room with their personality,” she said, and stripping would be emotionally revealing. “Are you nervous?” she taunted them.
